The Church of Saint Michael and School Building

Here’s a crazy old shot of the Church of St. Michael and the school building on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, which appears to have been shot from the south side of 43rd street between 4th and 5th avenues. I’m guessing this was taken some time in the 1930s. If I am not mistaken, the Catholic school has been replaced by a public school, but the church is still in full effect.

Another pic I found on the internet a few years ago, but can’t remember where, exactly. Think I may have gotten it from Sunset Parker, but I’m not sure. I love seeing pics of this building, from when it was still open and in use. I grew up on this block and this building has been closed and boarded up the whole time.

Original 68th Precinct in Brooklyn

Here is a shot of Brooklyn’s original 68th precinct on 43rd street & 4th ave. Shut down in the early 1970s, it has been closed and boarded up for my whole life. There were plans of opening up some sort of music school in the building in the late 1980s/early 1990s, but that those plans never materialized. The property was purchased by new owners earlier this year so hopefully they’ll do something good with it before it crumbles away completely. The attached garage on the left was once a stable for NYPD horses. Photo appears to have been taken some time in the late 1980s.
